I spoke with several breeders before contacting Blake at Feather Points, and I asked one simple question. “Can you tell me about your philosophy on your breading program?” Nearly all the breeders gave me the same answer about having amped up dogs ready to win titles and telling me about how I needed what they had. Blake on the other hand took a slightly different approach. He focused on a much more balanced dog. His philosophy was centered around that even if you hunt every day of duck season, you still have over 300 days a year that the dog will be your pet and part of your family. He then asked me what I was looking for out of a dog and we talked about the expected characteristics of the various litters he had coming up. His dogs can still run trials if that’s your thing and they have plenty of titles to prove it, but he strives for a dog that is both driven with a natural desire to retrieve yet is also very manageable having the elusive “On/Off Switch”. Feather Point doesn’t disappoint whether it’s just finding a great pup, or training them to live up to their potential. I’ve been amazed over the last year watching mine grow from a curious pup into a steady hunting partner and friend.

Professionalism and quality is understated. Recommended to see Feather Point Retrievers from an Army/Hunting buddy who lives near their facility. The owner, Blake, is very professional and provided ALL information and more regarding health history/records and genealogy if you are seeking to establish your very own hunting Lab Retriever. We received our first puppy after a very well coordinated lead up, from breeding, birthday to pick up date. Looking forward to returning for retriever training in a few more months.

Someone driving a 3500 is driving in and out of lanes headed to Kinston. We almost had a serious accident because they cut me off.
